Getting bored with your exercise routine? Try getting “board” instead. Doing balance board exercises can take your workout to another level by building core strength. You may have seen balance boards at your local gym. If you want to try before you buy, ask the fitness staff to show you a few moves. Or try this basic exercise on a balance board:
-Stand on the balance board, holding a chair or the wall for support.
-Place your feet shoulder-width apart.
-Rock the balance board to the front and back, and then from side to side for 1 minute, then work up to 2-3 minutes.
-As your core strength improves, you will be able to do this rocking exercise without the support of a chair or wall.
The classic balance board, such as the FitBALL® Balance Board, is 16 inches in diameter on a 1.5-inch base. This size is a good choice for beginning balancers, and it can also easily serve as a foot rest under a desk when not in use.
